This week, from June 4 to 6, the Metropolitan Housing Observatory of Barcelona (O-HB) participated in the International Social Housing Festival (ISHF), held in Dublin and organized by Housing Europe, the European federation for public, cooperative, and social housing. Over the course of three days, we had the opportunity to attend conferences, roundtables, and debates with experts and institutional representatives from various European countries. These sessions focused on the main challenges and solutions in the field of social housing across Europe.
In collaboration with Housing Europe, the O-HB organized the seminar “Short-Term Rentals: Measuring Impact and Shaping Policies,” which focused on the impact of short-term rental (STR) apartments on the housing market. The session took place on Friday, June 6, and brought together representatives from five European cities: Barcelona, Lisbon, Vienna, Amsterdam, and Luxembourg. The cities shared their experiences in measuring STRs, assessing their impact on housing prices, implementing regulatory policies, and evaluating their effectiveness.
The aim of the seminar was to foster knowledge exchange and strengthen cooperation between observatories and institutions working on housing policy research and management. This event continues the dialogue initiated in previous editions of the festival and within the European Network for Housing Research (ENHR). As a result of this initiative, a joint publication coordinated by O-HB will be released, compiling contributions from all participating cities. This publication will reinforce the role of Barcelona and its observatory within the European network of housing observatories.
