O-HB brings leading experts to discuss new rent control measures

The Barcelona Metropolitan Housing Observatory and the Barcelona International Consortium Menéndez Pelayo University-Centre Ernest Lluch organised on 20-21 October the workshop New systems of rent control under debate at the Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB) in which many leading national and international experts in the field took part.

The aim of the workshop was to generate a rigorous debate that would highlight the main characteristics and effects of rent control, and publicise the studies and evaluations that have been carried out in this field in recent years.

Representatives from many relevant disciplines took part in the debate and stimulated an analysis of rent control from legal, economic, political and social perspectives. This analysis centred on the past (creation, application and first results and aims of the law), present (current process of creating a state rent control law) and future of these measures. Internationally, some presentations compared the situation in Catalonia with that of other European countries such as Germany in terms of the characteristics and short-term consequences of these new regulations.
