We have taken part in the roundtable “Key Challenges for Housing Policies in Catalonia: What Role Can Evidence Play?”, a debate space to analyze the current challenges in housing and the importance of evidence in defining more effective policies. Carles Donat, co-director of the Metropolitan Housing Observatory of Barcelona and member of the expert group, represented OHB in this discussion.
The roundtable was held as part of the presentation of the project “Què funciona en les polítiques d’habitatge?“, conducted by Jordi Jofre (University of Barcelona) and Mariona Segú (University Cergy of Paris), commissioned by Ivàlua. This study examines the most effective strategies for addressing the housing crisis and ensuring policies based on data and evidence. The event was organized by the Department of Economy and Finance, the Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition, the UNESCO Housing Chair at Rovira i Virgili University (URV), and Ivàlua.
Housing remains one of the greatest social challenges, marked by a lack of affordability and residential exclusion. Evidence is fundamental to understanding market dynamics and advancing toward more effective policies that guarantee the right to decent housing. That is why this debate has been essential to understanding the current challenges and the future of housing in Catalonia.
